ImagePossibly one of those artists you wouldn’t really expect to see on the mighty Tympanik label at face value, and you would be forgiven for thinking that Disharmony are one of those acts that just utilise harsh vocals and electronics.
In reality there is a hell of a lot to this duo musically; yes they do venture into screaming vocals territory, but in all fairness this act have more in common with acts such as ‘Skinny Puppy’, ‘Frontline Assembly’ and ‘GGFH’ than they do say a lot of the crap that swamps clubs with sub division EBM and screaming vocals masking their lack of talent.

ImageAnother new find for Chicago’s Tympanik Audio, and yet again displaying an ear for all things great, no short measures here. Opening with ‘Komplex_A’ this is more of an intro than anything else and is significantly different to what’s on store come the rest of the album; a backwards and splintered jaunt that immediately drops and leads into proper tracks one as such ‘15mg’.  This is simply beautiful from the off with light ambient tones and subtle beat structures that pop through ever so slowly.

Image‘Surge’ is a peculiar beast; bizarrely reminding me of many factors in electronic circles and yet it isn’t nailing one particular field down at any one time; take for instance the opening track ‘Ulkine’ with its racing crunchy rhythms and bass lines that occasionally have a flow of synth that can’t help but drive home the impression that this is the way VAC would have folded it together.  It doesn’t sound like Velvet Acid Christ at all but the way it’s constructed is extremely familiar in its approach to layering and timing.

ImageSo its barely been a blink of the eye since the last album and debut by Tapage in the form of ‘The Institute of Random Events’; a gentle, obscure and downright eclectic album that was worth its weight in Gold when you gave it the necessary time to soak up the sonic art on offer.
Once again we delve into the strange and the bizarre, beats flying around in skittish fashion complimented along the way with the pitter-pats of gentle harmonies and tones further layered by rising and falling droning ambience cementing the Tapage formula as his own.

ImageAfter the frenetic Breakcore lunacy that is ‘Lucidstatic’ also showcased by Tympanik Audio with the rabid ‘Gravedigger’ I was more than interested to see what his other outing ‘Pandora’s Black Book’ had to offer; genuinely looking for something different and nothing to remind me of the genre styling of that project.
What we do have is something that teeter more into, dare I say it ‘Industrial’ territory, teetering near the edges of Skinny Puppy and bands more associated with that ilk; not sounding like them as such, but it’s the closest reference I can give
